edgar road community day

these pictures were taken at the edgar road community day where some of our designs for the estate and the community centre were displayed for residents to see and comment on.they were able to vote, via an ingenious sticker system, for the designs they or individual features they liked the best. The day was really good with various events, activities, and live music and recieving feedback about our design proposals from the people who would potentially use them was really useful.

year out job

the first year out job on study space. Looks quite interesting, i will definately apply for it and see what happens. I really liked liverpool after visiting it for the study visit, and wouldnt mind living/working there for the year out.

business cards

couple of ideas for a business card continuing the theme of the website. I dont really like the idea of using a business card as im not a business and it seems a little pretentious, but a useful graphic experiment all the same

year out opportunities

i have recently been looking into what i am going to do for my year out. because of the current situation i have been looking at various options as well as landscape architecture such as graphic and web design opportunities. I have also been looking at any volunteer work that could be relevant or could give me good experience, and found groundwork (http://www.groundwork.org.uk/), which is an organisation aiming to help develop more sustainable communities through various schemes and projects. I think this would offer good hands on experience as well as experience in working with and helping communities.

web development screenshots

this image shows the page that will link through to second year projects. you roll over thumbnails to see the project title, and there will be a short description of each, then click to view the project.

this sceenshot shows the single page dedicated to sample images from first year projects. you can roll over the thumbnails and then the larger image appears in the space next them.
i wanted to include some first year sample images on my website as it allows people to see the progression that i have made over the three years.

urban agriculture

this was a really interesting exhibition at NLA. the topic of urban agriculture and growing your own produce locally is very popular at the moment for the reason that it promotes healthy eating, more sustainable living as well as community development. I have been looking at vegetable growing for the edgar road design project, so the exhibition was very useful.

year out/ future opportunities

i found a really good landscape practice in canada called space to place design. They have done some really good projects including a playground and also a skatepark. I would like to live and work in canada and they seem to have a good focus on recreation in public space, which is reflected in this pracice's work.

website development

development of website through to final design(top image)(maybe).comes from layering of a previous possible background page and a drawing. I might try and include sounds on each of the tabs, which when played together create music. the inspiration for which comes from my uncle's band's website: http://srw.free.fr/.
i wanted the website to be simple but attractive. in other experimentations with websites i had different backgrounds for different pages and it looked a bit jumbled together, so i have tried to keep a more professional, consistent format running throughout

tree planting

learnt a little bit about small tree planting with some hands on experience planting some pear trees, although forgot to take photo of the trees once planted

canal linking skateparks

i went skateboarding at meanwhile gardens and meanwhile 2 skateparks, and for the first time realised that you can walk along the canal which links the two. it is a really nice stretch of the grand union canal.

possible website pages

these are various experiments for the front pages of websites done in flash. i wanted to experiment with different identities and try and gauge the kind of identity that i wanted my site to have. The best and most valuable of the three experiments is shown first.

canals woolhampton / maidenhead

whilst back home at easter had a look at some of the canals in the area, including the one at woolhampton which featured a pivoting bridge to enable the road and canal networks to cross

edgar road happy soul festival

the edgar road 'happy soul festival' was a day for residents of the estate to come to the community centre and engage with various activities. One of which was to plant and then take home your own plant/ vegetable. This was really successful and involved people of all ages getting involved with domestic agriculture, and showed just how appealing this can be.

tolworth bowl/playspace

went to skateboard at the newly constructed bowl in tolworth, which is part of a bigger scheme involving a landscaped playspace. The project is actually really good, and is a big step forward in terms of providing good skateboarding facilities, as well as a more engaging play environment for children.

samples of work

this is the front cover of a document which included samples of my work from both the second and third years. This was part of the process of experimenting with different outputs for the end of the year and for job apllications. the document contained mostly images with some text giving brief descriptions, with the idea that this could be sent to companies and they could get a quick idea of some of the work that i have done without having to go through a portfolio.

richmond park

liverpool/manchester field trip

for the self directed study visit i went up to manchester and liverpool with will, harry and james. The reason for going was because of the recent and current canal regeneration projects in both cities, which could prove to be useful for the continuation of the wey and arun canal projects. Manchesters recent regenration includes the new islington development. the animations on their website are really good: http://www.urbansplash.co.uk/projects/chips.
I really liked liverpool and the city centre has some great new projects.
